Another Beautiful 2008 Carter SD-10 Candy Apple Red Lacquer Body Pedal steel...has the premium neck w/jeweled top (an extra$$$), has the Aluma-tone pick-up that sound fantastic, has a Custom Road Case w/wheels (extra$$$) Polished Knee's and pedals, this guitar only has around 10 hrs playing time since new in non-smoking home, never left the house. No memphislim it is most definitely Lacquer...Bud made a few of these with the Automotive lacquer body's right before he quit manufacturing them...I have played this axe once and it is definitely Lacquer...thanks for inquiring, Brian

Well you should know Brian but it sure looks mica to me. Maybe some pictures with better lighting would help. Not saying that you do not know what you have but it is just curious. Never seen another like that. And I would like to have but done gave up. And I have had several Carter's thru the years. Good Luck, J.R.

Hi JR...the light on this guitar didn't do it justice, it is a real pretty Candy Apple Red color and I did play it last night before taking these pic's and it is a beautiful Automotive Candy Apple Red Lacquer that was built by Bud Carter...might have been the only one that he did...I have never seen another like it before...but it is beautiful. Also if you look at the pic's of it upside down in the case, you will notice the Candy Apple Red Lacquer paint on the bottom of this guitar and the bottom of the front apron also Candy Apple red Lacquer paint, if I remember Bud always just left the underside natural Maple finish???

| I think the confusion is that when pedal steel players hear “lacquer finish†that means clear lacquer that you see wood grain through. Here, this must obviously be a solid color lacquer. |

| What is confusing to me is what appears to be the presence of aluminum strips bordering the front apron, these are normally found on Mica guitars. |

hey gino that is the case on this custom ordered carter...it has automotive candy apple red lacquer paint under with a heavy clear coat lacquer finish on top, and yes the chrome strips are under the clear lacquer top coat over the automotive lacquer...the pic's I took do not do this beautiful Carter justice...thanks for inquiring...

Ward Skinner (RIP) from Mission, TX had one just like it.
He told me it was a very durable automotive paint.
We called it Hot Rod Red.
