Topic: Which six of the eight? |

Hi team! I'm happily pickin' away on my eight string lap steel tuned E6th. That's lo-hi E G# B C# E G# B E.
I also play my eight-String Reso with the same tuning. I'll be switching back to a six-string reso soon, but want to stay with E6th tuning.
It seems that the recommended setup is to tune the same as the 'lower' six strings of the eight...but I've found that I seem to pick the 'higher' six strings much more when playing.
Is it against the law to tune a six-string the 'higher' way? Lo-hi B C# E G# B E ? How about the 'middle' six?
Finally, am I in a minority thinking how versatile E6th is?

| Makes a lot of sense to me. I had a 6 string acoustic with a nut riser that I tuned E7 BDEG#BE (string 5 half a step under your tuning) and G6 BDEGBD (only two strings are different). Over time I learned that for me the 6th tone was a lot more useful in the higher strings. |

Steel guitar players are lawless bunch when it comes to tunings! If you like it and it works, use it.
Like Joe, I have a 6 string tuned to BDEGBD, the top six of the FGBDEGBD G13 on my everyday 8 string resonator. I miss the bottom two some, but it works nicely, since like you, I seem to spend most of my time on the top six anyway. Your BC#EG#BE wouldn't be that much different from a string gauge or pitch standpoint. |

| Tony, since you're looking for a 6 string tuning on your resonator that high G# on the Don Helms version might be a little thin sounding. On Helm's electric it really gave the high and lonesome sound. Experiment and report back! |
