Question about Sho Bud Maverick setup.

Hey there. After years on the non pedal side, I got a Maverick, lots of elbow grease and it looks good. There was only one pull rod for pedal one. Made the other long one, but then I found these pictures. Can someone please tell me:
why the waffle tree for pedal one is angled and why in some pics there are 2 rods per pedal. But in this thereâ€™s the short brass rod from one to three. Whatâ€™s a guy to do?!

If you look closely, you'll see that they are actually hooked up the same. The difference is the length of the cross shafts, which puts the rods in a slightly different position and makes it harder to follow them.
