This turned up randomly on a page of Jacques and Niki Gabelout music. Otherwise I'd've missed this breakthrough.

The guy added a pedal to piano (never enough pedals) for a special effect (like blocking the hammered string immediately after its strike.)
You can hop to 7:20 to hear the result. If the piano had been tuned a little better, the effect would be more pronounced. (Not really.)

Wow! That's different. Sounds like picking behind the bar at the 7 & 12 frets.
Nice mic placement for separation.

It's like pick blocking only the string you've plucked.
