In the early 90's, when lived in San Francisco, I recorded on some Gary Claxton demo songs, which I recently found. Gary was from Oklahoma an outstanding country vocalist.
He is no longer with us.
At the session he said for me to play all over this track, or something like that.
Here it is: http://picosong.com/w3QF8/
Has anyone else worked with Gary?

I had the pleasure of performing and recording with Gary for a year when I was still fairly new to steel. We was a great guy and pure honkytonk. Good times. I think I have some of those demos you played on. Joe Goldmark and David Phillips also played with him out here on the west coast..

Pure honkey tonk is right.
Here's another one:

I guess he liked steel. Nobody else to trade fills with.

Gary was one of my fav singers. He lived around the Austin area for a while, singing with Heybale (Redd V., Earl Poole Ball, Tom Lewis, and Kevin Smith). Here's a video of Gary and Heybale live. You could (and still can) catch these guys weekly around Austin, usually Sunday's at the Continental Club.

Redd will make you want to throw your Tele in the trash.. Smile

Thank you, Bill.
Redd is fantastic!
In the early 90's, I played in the house band at a club called "The Gorge", in Victoria, Vancouver Island, and Redd was in the group. I think this was just before he worked for Merle Haggard.
He also makes steelers want to throw their steel in some body of water.

Haha.. Indeed. I've had a chance to visit with Redd a time or two. There's nothing quite like the pressure of having him in your audience (or your band I suppose?) but that's a different story. Despite his enormous talent, not one iota of big-head. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

Second that BT!

I was lucky enough to do some playing and recording with Gary. He was a monstrous talent and a sweet guy. And a great harmony singer. He sang on some sessions at my place and really impressed me with his ability to hear parts. He is missed by many, many folks.
