I have a ShoBud Pro 1 changer that I would like to drill and tap to add split tuning screws to. Problem is I don't have an example to go by as to where to drill and tapl. Anyone have good photos of this or a diagram for reference? _________________ https://www.facebook.com/ggefell/ |

Greg, I would call Jim Palenscar and discuss your plan with him. He would know if it's even doable. I can tell you it's not a task for a novice...one could easily ruin the changer housing. Just my opinion. _________________ Best regards,

To do a precision installation. The Changer would need to be removed from the guitar. Disassemble the changer, Do some precise measuring/layout of holes. and a good drill press with vice or milling machine, Proper drill, Proper tap/tap handle, to do a percise job. I agree with Mr. Wheeler, I would suggest you get an experienced mechanic/machinist to help you with this project. If the changer frame got ruined it would be a hunt for a ShoBud changer. Good Luck on this project. |

Thanks for the info. I will contact Jim and/or Larry. My father is a retired toolmaker of 50+ years and we have all the necessary tools for this job so that part is a non-issue. I just need to be able to show him the end result and he'll make it happen correctly. _________________ https://www.facebook.com/ggefell/ |

Email sent with specs, this can easily be done without removing the changer or strings......Larry

It's a 1/4" spring, cut to length to stabilize tuning screw.., tune 1st, measure gap and cut spring. Larry

This is great, Larry. I probably would have (ignorantly) said that no, you really can't mount split screws in the Bud housing. Living/learning.
Without removing and taking the housing to a drill press, how did you bore reasonably tidy holes through that 1/4" of aluminum? |

I'd be afraid to drill that by hand. I think since I haven't yet strung it up and rodded it, I'll take it out and use a drill press. Thank you for removing the uncertainty and mystery behind this procedure. _________________ https://www.facebook.com/ggefell/ |

Hi Jon, send me your email and I'll forward the specs emails to you..!n 1999 My old friend Bob Saxton introduced me to Bobbe at Steel Guitar Nashville who introduced me to Duane Marrs who took me and my 1979 Pro1 to the back where we upgraded the guitar., then he whipped out a drill and in 10 minutes had the holes drilled, tapped and tuned!..Larry _________________ Excel steels & Peavey amps,Old Chevys & Motorcycles & Women on the Trashy Side |
