Anyone have any thoughts on a Fender Steel King? Good amp or not?

While they did possess excellent tone, some folks reported favorable results while others found them to be problematic (which to me indicates quality control issues). A local player purchased one of these units new and it spent more time in the shop than on the stage! He finally had it repaired one last time and it was sold. Most likely due to similar results from other owners, some of the major steel guitar shops no longer offered them and eventually Fender ceased production. On the plus side; if you are considering the purchase of one of these units, my guess would be that by now any negative issues have already been addressed and corrected.

Thanks David. I saw one and considered it but, I guess I'll let it go` - $$ better spent elsewhere.

I have had one since they came out and never once had a problem with it. I changed the speaker out to a JBL D130 and, be it a little heavy now, sounds really nice.

I also had onefor a few years, never a minutes trouble. I had Rick Johnson turn it into a "Split-Cab" configuration for me. I sold it here on the forum just moved on to try something different. I think it was a nice amp.

I love mine. It sounds almost as good as my old Evans.

One of my favorite amps of all time. I sold my Webb 6-14-E after getting my first Steel King.

A sound sample of my MSA Legend with a Steel King:

Go to this page and all the samples under "Sound Bites" use the same setup:
