I was working with a R&R band in the early 80's, and built a great 3 way sound system with 13 cu. ft. subs, 12" horn loaded mids, and 90 x 40 HF horns.
In the mid 80's, we put together a country band when the wife's youngest sister came back home. I realized I didn't need the mids for the smaller venues we were playing, and went to a 2 way system. The band was usually 2 guys and 3 girls, and hauling and setting those big cabinets wasn't necessary. I built a couple of 7 cu. ft. subs to go with the horns, and we still filled any hall we played in.
Now I see groups with the Bose, or other lightweight system, and they sound great. Times sure change! |
