Someone painted this with house paint so I had to strip.

I'm confused, what type of wood is this, the back and front are totally different to me, both stripped clean

Help! Lol

I am thinking that the difference in appearance, top vs. bottom might be explained by different attention to pre-finish grain filling in production with less concern about the unseen undersides.

I am often confused by the similarity in appearance between walnut and stained swamp ash. Those Fenders were made with both and I don't have the skill to identify what you've got there. Date might help. Jody Carver has said that the early guitars used walnut but it was discontinued.

Looks like ash to me. Was it blonde or brown? The brown ones were usually walnut and blondes were ash.
