As many of you know, Tommy has received his new lacquer guitar. So up for sale is his Zanzibar Ebony D-10. Please click the following link to see all the details on it. This guitar is in amazing shape and I just know he left licks on there.

Great guitar there Mike! It is one of the best sounding guitars I ever owned. Clarity and tuning like I've not had in 30 years. I started my Nashville career in 1976. In 1986, I brought Mullen Guitars to Nashville. A decision I'm most proud of.

That guitar has been featured so much on the Grand Ole Opry and the Ray Stevens' tv shows. It has been my go to guitar for 3 years. Hard to give it up. I did keep it clean, as it was my main axe. It really does have that something special. I'll surely miss it. Love my new guitar though.

What finish does Tommy have on his new lacquer guitar? The Zanzibar ebony finish was, I think, made by Carter before they went out of production. Having seen one, and liked it, I had Mullen make my G2 in that finish. I love it. |

Hi Jim,
I'm not privy to what formica has been used by out of business manufacturers.
I do know, Mullen Guitar Company was the first I saw the Zanzibar Ebony finish offered.
My guess is because the Zanzibar Ebony finish is the closest visually to rosewood formica, as rosewood mica is not available. The Zans finish has a more expensive and prestigious look than the traditional rosewood mica . The pearl trim strips really make it pop out. By the way, I replaced the Zanz mica guitar with a wood necks, charcoal stained, lacquer guitar. It's beautiful and sounds incredible.
