Looking to purchase a lock lever for a Lamar U- 12. I did write to Mr Lamar Colvin but he has his hands full building more of his pedal steels for customers. I fully understand.
I would have lock lever shipped to USA address. thank you, Stevet |

Steve, If you can get a picture of a Lamar lever lock (also look at Williams and other brands), you could fabricate a prototype out of wood (easy to work with).
Then once you have it working right, have a metal shop make you one based on the proyotype.
That is a bummer that Lamar won't send you one.
What is the reason you want a lock?
Long 6th-tuning rehearsals? Did you join a Swing band?
Just trying to help.
Pete. |

Thanks, Pete,
Very useful idea which I will try when I'm back in the USA as the guitar is there.
I'm not sure why Mr.Colvin won't send me one as he told me to get back to him after 6 weeks but that was nearly a year ago.
Hah, no I' m not part of a Swing band but enjoy playing those standards at home. I have several Double necks but had four hip operations on the right hip and find it hard to move extend the right leg to move the right levers . I need a more compact steel, thus the Lamar U-12 The lever would make playing easier..
Thanks for putting the time in to respond.

'Given the situation with your hip, you should continue to ask Lamar to make you one, assuming he is still making parts at all. Did you explain the issue to him?
Which Lever lowers the E's?
Do you have a picture of a Lamar lever lock?
I'm certain you can get a Lock on there, but kinda hard to do from long distance. |

Steve,
I have a Sierra lock lever. Don't know if it would work on the Lamar though.

Steve, Bruce use to use standard "over-center" locks for the Zumsteel E-locks. You can find info on them here, and order them on Amazon: https://www.destaco.com/horizontal-hold-down-clamps.html
Here is how Bruce would set it up:
:
You will need a finger that mounts onto the cross shaft you need to lock, and maybe a spacer under the Destaco to get it to right height. As you see, there are adjustments on the part that acually holds the finger down.
You could probably call Bruce and ask him what model he used. It might be a side-mount one that then attaches to the base he made to straddle the next cross rod.
Some minor engineering required, but a pretty simple setup. _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental! |
