Beginner here:
Have a almost new Williams 10 string with a Lace Alumitone pickup. I got two amps to try out as I want to get a small amp to learn on until I earn a nice amp.
I got to amps to try out and both sound like they are coming out of a hollow box. I am finding it hard to listen to them as the sound is so bad, to me. I amusing the clean channel with low volume and with head phones.
One is a fender Mustang 1, and the other is Orange crush 2o rt
Wondering if changing the amps or the pickups would help.
So far my playing sounds like my head is in the bucket so maybe I really have a match!!!
Any ideas!!?

Dennis, those two amps were not made for steel, my advice would be, try out a Peavey Nashville 112,great amp and cost not much more than the, Bandit. They are for sale on the Forum from time to time at a good price. Good luck and hang in there with your steel. Jim Goin. Smile

1) how much are you looking to spend?
2) Tone is usually the last tumbler to fall in the lock of steel playing.

Cheapish bass amps can be a bridge to a steel amp, but it can be tricky to get the mids right.
I'd try to get with the steel players near you, and see what it sounds like when THEY play through it.
There ARE steel players near you (at least, as a trucker, I regard Portland as just up the road, and there are oodles of them there, and an occasional steel jam at Jubitz),and most should be happy to help get you started.
