Just heard the news and am sadden by it. A local country music station in this area is doing a tribute to him. They are playing many of his songs. RIP Glen.

Prayers for the Campbells... Your family is a shining example
of the true American way of life... very graceful, and very close knit..
Thank you GC for a lifetimes worth of great music..

I'll make this very simple. This was the greatest guitar player I ever saw.

Here's my favorite pix of Glen; mostly from the mid-1950s in Albuquerque with Dale Anglin on steel in Dick Bills' band. That's Dusty Carroll on the quad Fender.

Very sad tonight, one of the first players I heard on my parents old record player, (Galveston album).

My friend is doing an outdoor show tonight and does a great cover of Wichita Lineman, and I asked him to play it tonight.

Rip Glen!

The day we have been dreading has come. Losing Glen Campbell is a huge loss in the music industry. What a guitar picking machine he was. So talented for sure. We will be sure and pray for his family.

Very sad news. For many of us, Glen was part of the soundtrack of our youth. Every time I hear "Wichita Lineman" I think of the first time I heard the song... cruising around town in my '62 Impala convertible on a beautiful day with friends and hearing that song coming through the radio. Hearing the song today takes me right back to that day in 1968. And I had one of Glen's early albums on 8-track... I played it over and over. What a voice, what a picker, a Beach Boy, an L.A. studio musician, a member of the Wrecking Crew, an actor, a television star, songwriter... you will be missed, Glen.

Coincidentally, two nights ago I played a show here in western Mass, and we played "Gentle On My Mind" as a tribute to Glen Campbell. Our singer introduced the song by telling the audience that Glen was in the last stages of Alzheimers. When we finished the song there was loud applause from a crowd of 800 people. They loved Glen's music. Who knew that two days later the man would be gone. Rest in Peace, Glen Campbell.

...with plenty of talent and abilities ..he fell, later in his career/journey smack into pitfalls made up of alky, drug, and Tanya obsessions. Still, he did pull out of that spin, and managed to cut loose from those minefields, with his humble, down-home charisma intact and infectious as ever. He never lost touch with his origins. His family should be proud of the legacy he left to his fans. Take a break now Glen. You deserve to rest easy. JZ

Very well said, Doug. Glen was part of the soundtrack of our lives and even the movie True Grit was very influential on me at about age 13. He was a natural musician to the core, a great entertainer and an example of bravery in the face of illness. In some 1960s circles Glen's music and the music of Jimmy Webb was dismissed as unhip. Musicians knew better and eventually, many of the "hip" musicians are barely known today while Glen's music lives on.

Most people don't know that Glen played guitar on thousands of recordings as a studio musician in L.A. in the 1960s. Here are just 10 of them.

“Hello Mary Lou” by Ricky Nelson (1961)
“Danke Schoen” by Wayne Newton (1963)
“Surf City” by Jan and Dean (1963)
“What’d I Say” by Elvis Presley (1963)
“I Get Around” by the Beach Boys (1964)
“You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers (1965)
“Strangers in the Night” by Frank Sinatra (1966)
“Mary, Mary” by the Monkees (1967)
“Mama Tried” by Merle Haggard (1968)
“Turn Around Look at Me” by the Vogues (1968)

I met him backstage at the Bear Valley Music Festival in 2005. He had been in top form that night and put on a great show with his band. He was very cordial and waited for me to go out to the parking lot to get my Telecaster so he could sign it. The autograph has since faded...but I will always remember him for that, as well as all the great music he gave us.

RIP, Glen.

Godspeed Glen!

You were the light of many during your time when you lit up the radios and screen.

Your music was on replay in my car going to college.

Your voice and guitar prowess was something to behold.

I saw an interview Glen did with Ralph Emery four or five years ago. I don't know if it was the original airing or not. It was somewhat painful to watch as he struggled with his memory to answer questions. I recognized it immediately, my own father struggling with the disease at the same time. I wondered then if they were trying to bring attention to it, or simply didn't know. Sadly, my father passed away Monday also, though he was a little older (94).
