2017 Super Event Review

Fri July 28th
The weekend started off with our first lady player, Ms JoAnn Kreder of St Charles, JoAnn seems to get better every time I hear her..Great job & keep coming back. Joining JoAnn on bass was Vera Bloom & Wanda Schell singing...Wonderful gals! JoAnn was presented with the Most Improved Player Award..The next two players came from OK and each of them is a marvelous player, Rick Crow and Wayne Morton.  Wayne is president of the OSGA & had Larry Lange sing on his set. Hope you come again guys! Next was a "local" player via TX., Bob Tuttle...always enjoy his smooth playing. Up next was another lady player, Beverly Harris , also from OK, .who did a wonderful job! Another lady player, this time from TX, Janet Wise. Janet, what a terrific set as always.  Closing out the morning were our special guests Ms Leona Williams & Ron Williams. Leona & Ron are always welcomed and the crowds love them both. Joining, them on steel was Junior Knight and on fiddle Dennis Stroughmatt Thanks for visiting us again guys!
Lunch Break
Opening the afternoon session was a newcomer to our group, John Buffington of  OK along  with his lead guitar player, Larry Lange. Fantastic set guys & we hope to see you again.Accompanying John was  Junior Knight & Larry on lead & vocals, Roy Rosetta, keyboards, Russ Wever on bass,  Bo Chaleupuk on fiddle, & Phillip Ferguson  on drums & vocals...what a fabulous group! Next was a returning player from  WV, Ron Kyne & his 5 yr old son, Ronnie, who steals the show ever time...he even has his own custom made steel....They always get a standing ovation! Jerry Newberry was up next..Fabulous set Jerry!
Next was everyone's favorite, Mr Terry Bethel.He even played "We Could" solo...Terry's tone & style of playing is superb! After Terry was Joe Wright of MI, always the crowd pleaser, Joe can play anything from country to blues & jazz to rock & roll. Joe will always have a home here in Branson. Another new player to the show was Bill Nicholson from GA. Fantastic player and we hope  to see him again.  Next was one of our young players, Jacob King..watch out steel world. Be prepared for Jacob as he may well be the next Tyler Hall or even Paul Franklin. We are so glad to see some youngin's taking an interest in keeping steel guitars alive! Jacob's grandpa, Max played bass & his Dad Jason sang. Russ Wever whom we normally see as our bass player but is equally at home on the steel guitar. Playing bass for Russ was Mark Abbott. Great set Russ!  The final player of the day was Mike McGee, who is Terry Bethel's favorite player. Max King on bass & vocals and Frank Warmbolt, Eddie Asher Jason King & Dennis Stroughmatt on vocals Excellent set Mike!...Mike also held a seminar on Intros & Endings There was 17 in attendance.!

Sat, July 29th
Mr Keith Hilton started the day with a marvelous set...Keith also makes & sells Hilton volume pedals! Ernie Jackson sang with Keith Another newcomer to our shows was, Greg Moody a local player who had a great set.Greg brought most of his band...Randy McConnell on bass, his son Grant Moody on lead &  on Andy   drums Glad to see you join us! Next was the lovable Eddie Lane. The crowd always loves Eddie who has played at one time or another with almost every show in Branson...of course Eddie was great as always!Gary Ash on rhythm Our next player has been coming to Branson for many years and well loved by all, Mr Buck Grantham of LA. Buck asked Leona Williams &  Dino Strunk to sing on his set. So good to see you & Mitzi again! Jerry Roller of AR was up next and had a wonderful set. Jerry played a song written  by Terry Bethel. Again our young player, Jacob King, took  to the stage and played a great set. with his grandpa Max King on bass & his dad Jason on vocals His dad better keep a baseball bat handy to beat off the young ladies...HaHa  The last player of the morning was Gene Mulvaney & the Grand Band, who have been nominated for Branson's Terry Beene awards. The band included;Gene, Wayne Massengale, & guest Splinter Middleton on vocals. What a way to finish the morning!
Lunch Break
We had to switch fiddle players to Dennis Stroughmatt..Wayne had a show to do! Dean Holman(AR), who plays for the Presley's started off the afternoon. Dean also played Dobro for us. Great job as always Dean! Next was the ever popular Terry Wood...what a marvelous, smooth player! His son Zane(12) with him on bass..Great job guys! Back for the 2nd year was Junior Knight of TX. So glad you & your lovely wife, Saran, recovered from your health issues in time to join us. Wonderful set Junior!.  Our special guests were  up next..pleased you could spend the weekend with us this year Junior Knight played steel!...Super job as always Leona & Ron!  After them was a new lady player, Janice Zilm of IL. Her son Jason Zilm played drums on her set. Everyone loved her and hope she'll visit us again sometime! Marvelous player and singer! After Janice was The one & only Joe Wright, how can one man have so much talent? Next another of our lady players, JoAnn Kreder, beautifully done as always JoAnn. JoAnn was again by Vera Bloom & Wanda Schell..The last player of the day was Curt "the Shoe" Shoemaker, of KS..Curt was here 2 years ago and has such a soft sweet tone to his playing. Curt brought Ed Glen on bass,   Ken Huff on drums, Great way to end the day
Steve Melchi held an informal jam session in the smaller adjoining room. The following players joined in:
JoAnn Kreder, Larry Gerdeman, Ron Erickson, Beverly Harris, David Dean White, Marlyse Stockinger, & John Zazuliak on accordion, Buddy Lewis on bass the band and various singers.

Sun July 30th
The day was started with a lovely church service provided by Gene and Gayla Crain from OK. Thanks very much guys. After the service our first player was Gene Crain who plays beautifully! great set Gene....Mr Buck Grantham played for for the 2nd time much to the delight of the crowd. Jerry Newberry was able to join us again after some health problems. Donna Newberry joined him for a song then Billy Dale Sexton also sang with him. So glad to see Jerry and Donna this year..great job guys!   Robbie Springfield of the Clay Cooper Express  played an awesome set.... He was  joined by Paul Sessions on bass & vocals!  Dino Strunk also joined in...Fantastic guys!   Don Reed was next and played a fabulous set
Lunch Break with pizza!!!
Our first player of the afternoon was Jack Musgrave who played a marvelous set for us! Jack was followed by our last lady player of the weekend. Janet Wise who always pleases the crowd & everyone loves her beautiful blue guitar. Last but not least, Mr Mike McGee, who closed the show with an excellent performance  Max King was on bass & vocals.....
Thanks to Terry Bethel (Pres), Charlie & Rosemary Steichen (VP's), Cathy Smeenk (Sec), John & Pat Zazuliak (Publicity), Sheena Beauchamp (Photographer), All the band players throughout the weekend & all the singers and thanks to Buddy Lewis for providing 2 sound systems this time. Thanks to all the workers behind the scene who helped this run smoothly! Thanks to the vendors who came. Thanks to all the ladies who brought food & the association for Sunday's pizza. A big thank you to the Stone Castle Hotel & staff for the great room, kind treatment to all those who attended, for providing us with coffee & accessories everyday. and thanks for providing fans to keep us comfortable when the air went out. We greatly appreciate the record crowds who attended this year and for sticking it out through the heat  and all the players who came and still played during the heat. Hope to see some of you at the Aug Jam the 13th from 1pm-5pm in the small meeting room!

Thanks for the summary. I know that you do a lot of behind the scene work, also. Branson has a great club.
I see that Robbie got to be there on Sunday. I hate that I missed his set.

Thx Beverly, yes he made it in time to play but Steve Melchi had trouble with his guitar so Mike McGee moved up and we closed early!.....cya later gater Friday's pix are almost ready to post..Smile

Everybody was absolutely astounded by Dennis Stroughmatt singing two Ray Price songs on Friday afternoon, it was worth the price of the show.

I thought the sound this year was much better than last year which was too loud, in fact it was just perfect.

Thank you Martha for the nice review. My Texas friends and I had a superb time, hospitality was fabulous, and hope to see you all again next year. Keep up the great work, we appreciate you.
