Any suggestions for reducing significant amplifier hum caused by single coil pickup in Mullen Discovery? Thanks! |

Well,
it's unlikely the pickup is the "cause", merely the receptor.
The cause might be cables, lighting, motors, dimmers, etc. You can either eliminate the cause, change the pickup or perhaps use something like a Hum-X to minimize the problem.

Steven, I'm sure if you call Mike at Mullen, he will help you with this. Great guy to work with. _________________ Zum U-12, Carter SDU-12, Zum Encore, Emmons S-10, Emmons D-10, Nashville 400, Two Peavey Nashville 112, Boss Katana 100, Ibanez DD700, Almost every Lesson Jeff Newman sold. Single coil pickups just hum. It's ok, just turn your amp up. You won't notice it.
I'd bet money that's why Mike Johnson has 705's in his red push pull. Those tv things he does require him to play at a whisper. It's amazing how good those sound in his guitar. _________________ Emmons/Sho~Bud/Blanton, Fender/Peavey.

I can verify that the Hum Debugger does, in fact, significantly reduce hum from a Mullen Discovery. _________________ Mullen Discovery 3x4

Thanks for all the tips. Mullen suggested replacing the pickup with Lawrence 705's.....will try a hum debugging pedal first! |

Is it relatively easy to replace the existing pickup with 705? I am handy, though never removed/replaced pickups...... |

I never did it on my Mullen, Steven... I looked under there and to me it looked daunting... I understand that Mullen has come up with Quick Connect plugs, but you’d have to contact them to see about getting that option in an after market retro-fit. _________________ Dale Rottacker, Steelinatune™
