Just saw this today. Some of these have been bootlegged over the years on various lower-budget labels but this one looks like it was done right - with much reverence for the original recordings sound. This will be a must-own for many steel guitarists. While there are many more Byrd cuts that also deserve to see the light of day, this is a very good start and long overdue.

Looking at the pics there, I assume they were of the era where he used his 7-string pre-war bakelite. His sound changed a bit when he went to other guitars, because of the bakelite problem from heat/lights.

Hopefully, for me, some later stuff with Hawaiian tunes will come from that source...

They are recordings mostly from about 1949 to around 1954.
Recorded mostly on a seven string rickenbacker I believe.
Jerry was a hot recording guitarist back then before the pedal guys started to make a new sound that cost Jerry work in later years.
The sound quality on this CD is great and I certainly recommend it.

Just got mine. Best sound I've ever heard for Byrd's recordings. Ironically, after being an audiophile snob in my earlier years, these days my best sound for CDs is in the car.

Now I have to wait for it to come from germany.
Also got the receipt in German.
Way back when... I had to drop that class because it was dragging down my grade average. Laughing
