I am considering a Nashville 1000. What are they like compared to the 400?

In my personal opinion, it's a step down.
In terms of warmth and responsiveness of tone, I personally rank the old ones (I've not played the Session 115):
Session 400
Session 500
LTD (although it's the same circuit as the Session 400, the smaller cab reduces the depth)
Session 400 Limited (funny: everything with Session in the name sounds better than anything with Nashville in the name)
Nashville 400
Nashville 1000
Nashville 112
Nashville 2000 (I abhor the Profex: why someone would deface an amp by putting one in it is beyond me).

I have both and I find them to be pretty close although the 1000 was a little lighter but bigger than the 400.
Reverb on the 1000 would go into a regenerative state if you turned it up very much but after modding it,it stopped.
Bass on the 1000 was slightly less boomy sounding but the mids were harder to get where I liked them versus the 400.
Highs were somewhat more brittle than the 400
Both were very loud amps but overall the 400 won out with a little more punch than the 1000
For size,punch,Eq I would probably stay with the 400
One last point is I did have to send the amp back to Peavey twice due to it dying on me at two gigs shortly after it coming back from being repaired.
It's still dead and I probably won't send it back again.

I've had both, a NV400 and a NV1000.
The NV400 had the Peavey installed tone mod (bought new - ordered thru Cousin Jed's music store in North Kansas City). I "tolerated" the amp until the NV1000's came out. I used the NV1000 on the road for 7 years. I liked the NV1000 better and even better with the OPA2134 op-amps installed in the preamp board - gives it a similar sound to the NV112's all analog circuitry.

I had a Nashville 1000 for quite a while and liked it a lot - having said that I had a 400 even longer and liked that a lot too hehe
THe 1000 has more grunt (300 watts) and I had a Neo magnet on the BW-1501-4 so it was lighter as well - I always felt it was a great amp.
