I was taking a lesson from Debashish Bhattacharya last Winter with a couple of other guys and for a lark, asked him just how fast he could pick. We turned on the iTabla app on the iPhone and when the app stopped going at 800 BPM, Debashish kept going!

Yup, thats the stuff! Maybe not cut the C&W mustard in Nashville, but they are hot players. Actually I'd bet they could do just about anything they liked including C&W.
I've watched quite a lot of the Indian steelers and they never stop amazing me.
That is a strange bar they use, long and hollow and they hold it differently, but seems to be real good for hammer-ons.

1. I just cannot believe someone can be that fast with a tone bar. Holy smokes.
2. I tried sitting like that and playing. Help me. My legs are asleep and I'm going to die right here.

From Tacoma.
Are you going to be attending the Guild of American Luthiers convention?
It's open to the public on Saturday.
There should be some there who build lap steels or other kinds of steel guitars.

We will have a table there selling pearl inlays. I'll be there Friday & Saturday.
If you come, stop by to say hello. Very Happy

He's fast because he has no shoes on. Barefoot, that's the only thing I can attest the speed to.

It ain't that!
After years spent in Asia we never have on shoes in the house.
I even play my pedal steel barefoot and he's about 10 X my best speed ever. Whoa! Laughing Very Happy

Maybe it the way he crosses his legs? I can't do that! Rolling Eyes

Indian slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya is on MY Mount McKinley, along with Duane and Miles. At 6:06 here, he demostrates why:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLk5iGC6Z6s

That's one heck of a lick. Whoa!

His latest album is "Hawaii to Calcutta: A Tribute to Tau Moe." I haven't yet decided if it's his best ever, or if "Calcutta Slide Guitar 3" still triumphs. He does slow down and play some Hawaii-ey stuff on it, but he can't help but uncork a few, as above. It is living in my CD player for now. The only downside is it's nigh-on impossible to get back into "Roly-Poly" after this.
