I just ended up with a 7-string super strat type guitar and am planning to covert it for lap style playing. The guitar is a Washburn N2 7-string and has two splittable humbucker pickups and a volume knob as well as a Floyd Rose type bridge & nut. I'm thinking of removing the string clamps and filing a threaded rod so it fits in the metal chanel without wobbling. I also plan to block the bridge with a large wooden wedge.

My idea is this guitar would be tuned with the idea to use distortion or overdrive unlike a more typical lap steel. I'm thinking of either

One of these would make it actually sound like a steel guitar more than a piece of all-thread.

You can cut spacing grooves easily too.

If you want a bridge and string receiver look at this.

I prefer the second tuning that doesn't have the low major third.
I began favoring that kind of tuning because without the defined major or minor third, it allows me to jump right in on a song and not be concerned about the third.
It is also great for ZZ Top type material.
For six string lap I Iike (Low-high) 1-5-1-3-5-1.
It is also great for country & Hawaiian.
Some very nice forward and reverse slants to explore too.
