I am new to the steel world, though I have played guitar for 49 years of the 62 that I have lived.
I wonder about what strings you people favor.
I just bought a used 6 string lap steel and got a set of Black Diamond Chromium Flat wounds. Size is 52-12 ga.
I figure the flatwounds would have less noise on the slide.
Tell me what you think and use.

I use SIT's. a pretty good string. I have read Ernie Ball and Jagwire's are good also.

Mark, A friend of mine gave me a set of Live Steel Strings...the company is owned by an old friend of mine from Virginia (Sid Hudson)...These strings are the best I've ever used hands down!....get you some you won't regret it!

PS...If you call them they will make you a special set up to your standards at no charge and will send them out the same day!!!!

Here is their link http://livesteelstrings.com/

The set you have will probably work, but will only be suitable for tunings close to standard guitar, e.g. open D DADF#AD. Those gauges aren't going to work well, or at all for CEGACE.

Flatwounds will probably work, but aren't really necessary, and probably are not going to give you a tone you're going to love.

Either of these would be a good start, and a way to support this wonderful forum!

I used to use GHS Boomers, I have gone to using Live Steel. In my humble opinion they have been the best I have used.I tried George L's, SIT Buddy Emmons. But I have gotten better tone response from Live Steel Strings.
