Oops.... just noticed the aluminum necks. I think you're on the right track. It should be a beauty when you're done.

Still gonna use the burnt orange sunburst? I often thought about refinishing my tobacco burst woody P/P in that color.

Veneer is .024 and the mica that came off is .048. I will be doubling the veneer of course.

Looking good Mike! Thanks for detailing the workup on this fine Emmons. Keep up the good work.

Flocking: my vote would be to keep it black.

Thanks Andy ...

I did consider wrapping her up in Brazilian Rosewood with an awesome clear-coat

Rosewood could also be nice, but maple seems the tradition starting with PA Bigsby and still after all these years.
Are you planning a natural (Amber Tint maybe) finish or some nice color work?
If it looks as good as that last one you did it will be really special.
Great workmanship your doing there.

I know where another D10 green formica push/pull is at.
It once belonged to Tommy White and it has the Day setup.

I wonder why some one would cover up nice wood with Mica?

I can think of one reason; the color of a lacquer guitar will fade if it's exposed to sunlight over a prolonged period of time.

I think mica is better for playing outdoor gigs.

When Buddy Emmons got together with Ron Lashley and started to design the Emmons guitar, Buddy wanted a guitar that was more suited to gigging ie: durable and could stand up to the rigors of traveling.
That was the reason for the mica. That is a more rugged finish than lacquer.

Straight from the horse's (Big E's) mouth: Somebody left a lit cigarette on the peghead end of Buddy's Bigsby, which totally pissed him off since he had an ashtray attached to the guitar.

Formica burns at a much higher temperature than lacquered maple. Hence, mica finish on the original Originals.

"Linda Blair Exorcist vomit." I knew it was some kind of repulsive and I think you just named it right! Whoa!

And the thought of a cigarette on a Bigsby, words acceptable for the forum do not quite describe quite what I'd say about that. Mad

Exactly Herb, you got it right. He told the same thing to a good buddy of mine that spent a lot of time with BigE and the cigarette story came from Buddy himself. Lucky for me I guess I don't smoke...

Regardless, I think wood guitars sound great and are great visually as well. Since I retired from the road and play mainly at church I think a wood guitar suits me just fine along with my black mica Infinity.

Now, here is the last of my 1st coat of veneer. The good stuff is next

Mike,
I read that this will be primarily a church guitar.
I bought a Spirit model Rains some time ago that had a cabinet built by Mark Giles, it is definitely a church guitar.

And I have a seat to match:

Thanks, Mike! Very Happy
The dove, along with the name, is inlaid in mother-of-pearl.
And the fret markers are also mother-of-pearl doves.
