The only one I rewound was a combination of 38 and 42.

| How does that compare to a 1974 ShoBud pickup? I love the sound and tone of ZB's but a ShoBud has noticeably more kick without getting into the realm of a high impedance pickup. |

This doesn't answer Brad's question, but in a "Northeast Pedal Steel Guitar Association" newsletter from the late 70's there was an article on winding dual coil pickups with both 36ga. and 42ga. wire. I think the 36ga. was wound first with a coil tap half way. Maybe I can dig out my copy?

| That's interesting- I'd like to know the logic behind that - I use both but generally not in the same pickup- I'd imagine that there would be a tap at the junction. |

I know Jerry Blanton did that too. I think Jerry told me he used 38 and 44. I have to check my notes. You get different so many factors affecting the sound of a pickup. A Bigsby pickup sounds fat, for example, but it is 1.86 to 2K ohms depending upon the neck it is designed for, but there is so much else going on in the design.
