I saw this obscure Everly Brothers record,"The Stories We Could Tell", that has Buddy on it.

Looking at several sites that give the credits, I see that Ry Cooder plays "slide guitar".
Buddy also plays "slide guitar".
I'm surprised they don't call it a "table guitar"

I loved that record right from the beginning. It turned me on to Country. No steel but the the great Jerry McGee on lead guitar here:

I was asked by Edan Everly, son of Don to provide Steel Guitar parts for one of his CDs some years ago, which I was pleased to do of course and was credited on the sleeve.

That was beautiful, Joachim. Everybody certainly turns around to see who it is when Paul kicks it off.

Yes it's perfect Charlie, the singers, musicians and Paul, who pulled that phrase off. One of the most mysterious in steel guitar history. At least for me, but than again I'm no way near Paul.

I know there's a strong 'delay'element in that intro but I can't figure it out.

Looks like the second time through that "cascade" Paul gets kinda lost and just picks up the end. Still just phenomenal to watch that being performed by a mere mortal. And there is some serious delay going on, both on the Buddy original and Paul's stellar live version. Anybody ever tried that cascade turn?

And also on the Green River recording, Ry Cooder on slide guitar, and (I think) Warren Zevon on piano and both Crosby and Nash on backing vocals. I wonder what the final tally was for THAT session!

Took a stab at tabbing the "Green River" intro HERE. Hope PF chimes in...

I'd guess it's a one repeat echo setting like Buddy was known to use. I believe he started playing Sierra in the 90's, but who knows if he played them earlier.

That effect sort of sounds like a cascading arpeggiator effect like some in my multi-fx boxes, but don't believe they would have been around in the 70's.

Total guesses.

I don't hear any significant effects other than his hands.
