Recording artist Eldon Davis stopped by the store today to have this Gibson lap steel repaired. He asked me to inquire about it's value and date of manufacture. The s/n is E2572-38. The case is original. I can probably match the tuner shape, if not the exact design. It looks like these tuners may have already been replaced with something slightly different.

According to Duchossoir...
Its an EH-150 v4, very late pre-War, 1940-late 1942. It has an early adjustable pole piece pickup, precursor to the p90 style. Per serial its a 1941 I think.
I don't know the value. Maybe up to $1000? |

Two of the tuner buttons are plastic and the remaining ones are metal. Did the original have plastic or metal buttons? Since the engraved pattern on the plate is the same on all of them and something I've not seen in current production tuners, I'm guessing two of the metal buttons broke off and were replaced with plastic buttons that were heated and pressed onto the shaft. There aren't any screws in the center of any of the buttons. |
