The M2 has a laminate mahogany top and back with solid mahogany sides and neck. The body top is bound in ivoroid/black/ivoroid and the body back is bound in ivoroid. Its headstock has an engraved pearloid overlay and 3-on-a-plate closed gear tuners. The fretboard is made of rosewood with mother-of-pearl diamond fretmarkers. The coverplate and tailpiece have the new National satin nickel finish.

The M2 has all the sonic power of National's spun aluminum biscuit cone with the warmth of mahogany wood. The tone is rich and warm with pleasant and controlled reverberation and just enough clarity.

A forum member noticed I forgot to mention whether this is square neck or round. It is a ROUND neck! Beautiful sound, but I just don't play it enough to warrant keeping it.
