I do not have any affiliation with this sell. I just thought others might have an interest in this piece of history.

Indeed an interesting piece of history. Don't see very many basket-weave Emmons for sale. Also, interesting build out on the headstock to accommodate the Grovers. I wonder if there's a way to authenticate this as Buddy's steel?

I don't think the seller is saying it was Buddy's, just that it is "like" Buddy's. Also, wondering if this is Mitch Easter selling this guitar. He's studio is up there and I know he had a pedal steel like that.

I don't recall if Buddy ever played a 12 string guitar like the one for sale.

It looks like Buddy`s guitar has two pick ups.
Or four if count the overhanging one and the one at the nut.
But two mounted at the bridge.
A guitar for experimenting, for sure.

It looks like a 10 stringer on the record cover or maybe my counter is off.

The last time I was at the Fidelitorium Mitch was telling me about his steel. Said it was an Emmons, but it didn't sound as unique as this one. Kernersville is very close to where the factory used to be, probably a lot of interesting pp's around the area.

Damir is off to Europe, so this won't be in Knashville anytime soon..or ??
It will be a magnet for commentary in the daze..uh , days ahead...or ??
Looks 'era specific' to me.. split-tail, etc. But this thread is soon to be a 'Rap-Around'. 😮

The guitar on the album cover clearly has two pups mounted on the neck at the bridge, so this guitar is similar but not the same guitar. Nor is it claimed to be.

Unique non the less.

Be quite surprised if someone off the forum does not snap this one up in the next 24hrs. Its been advertised on Craigslist OVER two weeks.

I always loved the look of that guitar, and the sound. If I was forced to pick one Buddy album as my favorite, it would be that one. I knew there would be some interest in a similar guitar.

Lefty

I'm in the Atlanta area and I saw it on Craigs list. I thought about it but decided against as I can't play the 10 string I have let alone a 12 string.

And it's in Kernersville NC.

Now if it was a 70's blonde Sho-Bud S-12 rack & barrel I probably would have made a move on it Smile .....

While we are this topic - Buddy had an E 13th / Chromatic tuning on this guitar. h-l F#,Eb,G#,E,C#,B,G#,F#,E,D,B,E
I use this tuning, without the top 2 strings.

Thanx,
Jim

I thought there were only three of these basketweave 12's, but apparently not. I have one with 7 and 5 set up universal and it's an astounding guitar.

I remember reading that BE was experimenting with single string pups/etc with this guitar, also had a Sierra S12 that he used on the Linus & Lucy (which he said he really liked). Buddy was always experimenting with 12 string tunings, also had an S12 with one of his special tunings when he passed. I saw a picture of him & the Linus guitar sitting on the pitchers mound, don't remember where.
