Need help from the amp guys.
I have a Peavey Bandit 112 Transtube Series. The power amp is distorting like mad.
So far I have tried:
Different speaker - same problem. (speaker is fine)
I tried jumpering the fx loop (send to return) and still the same problem.
Tried jumping the preamp out to the preamp in. - same problem.
Disconnected the reverb molex connector. - same problem.
When I line into the power amp in there is still the distorted sound.
The preamp sounds fine when I run the preamp out to another amp.
So I know the preamp is fine. Something in the power amp section is bad.
Nothing looks fried from a visual inspection. All fuses are good.
I know a bit about amp repair but this one has me stumped.
Could it be an output transistor went bad somehow? I rarely used the amp - it's been sitting for years.
Anyone have more trouble shooting suggestions?

Ha - problem solved.
Cleaned the external speaker jack.
The external speaker jack was dirty from sitting so long. Must have been causing some kind of short.
Wouldn't have thought to try that but that was it.
Easy fix. |

If I may get all pedantic and stuff, it didn't create any kind of short: it created an intermittent open. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects |
