Just got word this morning that Leon passed away this week. Apparently from a heart attack while exiting his car. His wife had just drove him home from the hospital.
If anyone knows more please let us know |

What sad news, Ken. I first met Leon years ago at a steel show. We had lots in common to talk about - Florida, Sho-Buds, Naval Air Station Saufley Field, and Naval Air Station Pensacola. I remember he introduced me to his friend Doug Jernigan. Leon was a perfectionist and did some beautiful work with Albert Johnson restoring old Sho-Buds. He was always happy to provide great maintenance advice over the years and helped out a lot of folks on the Forum. Rest in peace, Leon, and thoughts and prayers for you and your wife. |

Such sad news. I worked with a little Leon in San Diego in the 70-80's frame and he was so great to work with.
Doug and I were talking about him in Jan at the Feenix show.
Leon was a fine person and will be missed by many. Condolences to his friends and Family. _________________ Ray Harrison

Very sad... Leon was old school cool.. A really decent steel guy that was really talented in anything mechanical. Helped me numerous times with my steels. He lives on in our hearts for sure.. God bless Arlene.... |

Condolences to Leon's Family,
I like many others in Sandy Eggo, had Leon's expertise working on my MSA Universal, I bought from Doug Meyer.
Leon was a friend , when few were to be found in a tough to get into Navy Town.
I still regret selling him my LLoyd Green Sho Bud, I think he kept it.
Blessings from George Piburn |

Condolences. I met Leon once when he came down to one of our Florida Steel Guitar Jams, about 10 years ago. He was with another guy from Tallahassee. _________________ GFI Ultra Keyless S-10 with pad (Black of course) TB202 amp, Hilton VP, Steelers Choice sidekick seat

Jack,
The other guy from Tallahassee may have been another forum member, Andy Eder. I found out that Andy passed away back in April via his Facebook page. I didn't get the change to meet either of these two gentlemen, but my friend from Marianna, FL, Kevin Barber knew Andy and was shocked of his passing. _________________ ***Bob*** |

I'm just seeing this and couldn't be more proud to have known him. Leon and Albert Johnson took me under their wings at their shop in Tallahassee and taught me a lot about steels and fixed up my guitars when i first began playing. Leon even loaned me two different Sho~Buds while he restored mine. He encouraged me to move to Nashville and try my hand at a career playing steel and if not for him I never would have gone. Rest in peace dear friend. |
