Thanks again for the good tips. I will take all the knowledge I can get |
Judging by the work that you've done on the Emmons and Damir's Excel, you already have an incredible amount of knowledge and skill............far more than my own, |
Thank you for the kind words but you would be surprised how much I don't know HA! _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

Mike,
It's looking great. Boy, I sure do like that color. Maybe you ought to consider redoing the green Emmons up the same way...and sell it to me! |

I'm thinking the green Emmons will be a flamed maple burnt orange burst!

Thank you Phillip, and it sounds amazing too. We set it side by side to Randy's 1967 and it was a match in tone for use. I hope to get her all done soon and all tweaked in real good... I'm taking lots of time to make it perfect. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

It looks like you have one bellcrank on backwards???
Actually, now I see in another photo it is correctly oriented. You show it both ways.
On your RL kneelever, you can install a screw through the return bracket to act as a stop. _________________ Chris Lucker

I figured I would go ahead and wire her up now while everything is out of my way. I used Reverb cable for the input as that stuff has very good shielding. |
Mike, that's great looking work!
How do you know where to set tension on those springs? I imagine it's difficult to get to them when it's all rodded up. |

With the right tools, setting the lower rods to the minimal tightness required is easy to do no matter how loaded up with rods the guitar is.
I cut a crosswise slot that I dremeled in a long handled flathead screwdriver to hook the front spring and drive the spring rod forward ........then use a long handle T-wrench to push the coller back against the gate to tighten it in place w/ the hex wrench,
.......... takes 15-30 sec to do.

What I do on the tension springs is once I have the guitar tuned up to pitch (or close) I grab each spring and release them till the finger starts to come off the body. Then I pull it back till it touches and pull it 1/4" past that and tighten her down. That method works for me. I do all this before any lowering rods are installed. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

Hey thanks Chris. I haven't finished the stops yet as we headed out for vacation right about the time I was getting into the rodding. There is still more to do as you can see. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

So, Mike... are you actually going to take that baby out into Harm's Way and, God forbid, gig with it?! _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

LOL Herb! I'm not sure yet. This might get sold or I may keep it, I haven't really decided yet. I have another I will start soon as I finish this one up. It will be a lacquer guitar with a metal neck/ cut-tail. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

Hi Mike,
It's been a week or so since the last update. I know you are taking your time to make sure everything is just right, but is there any new developments on this restoration project?
Thanks,

Hey Don
Been on vacation and just got home from a badly needed rest. Was in FL and stopped by the Kennedy Space Center, very cool stuff. Anyway, I hope to finish her up this week if I can get the time... _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

Ha Terry! I know huh. Well sometimes a guy needs a serious break and I did. I put all my amp orders off till Sept too as I just had so much going on. I will finish this up this week and start #2 Lacquer Emmons soon there after. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you
