I am happy to announce that Jim and Mike will be playing at the Sweet Sounds of Jazz Concert Series this summer in my town of Westfield, NJ. The festival is every Tuesday at 7 in five locations around the downtown in July and August.

http://westfieldtoday.com/images/brochure_web_outlines_5-22-17.pdf

Jim will be playing again this year on July 11, and Mike on August 22.

My good friend Glenn Alexander and his band Shadowland will also there on August 8.

If you are in the area, please plan to attend, its gonna be a great time this year!

Wanted to bring this to the top, so anyone local will come out and see Jim and his top notch band.

It's also my daughter's 20th birthday so it should be a great day!

We're looking forward to playing this festival. Come on out if you can; there'll be 5 acts playing simultaneously at 5 different locations around the center of town, all walkable from each other. A really nice hang. Hope to see some Forumites there.

Great night of music, Jim was great as was his A-list Philly band. The weather was good, had a threat of thunderstorms, but the steel guitar gods were with us tonight.

We had about 8 local players attend and all had a great time hanging out with the crowd.

Hopefully, Jim will post a few videos from his camera.

Don't forget to come out and see Mike Near on August 22nd at the same venue and time, unfortunately I will be down in the Lone Star State taking my daughter to college, so hopefully someone can record Mikes performance.

Thanks to all who came out and supported Jim, who is bringing the steel guitar out to many people who have never seen or heard it in the Jazz context or any other one whatever that may be☺☺☺

I want to add my thanks to all the fine folks who came out last night for the Steel Guitar Jazz show. It was great to see a bunch of steelers in the crowd, including Mike Neer, John Ciano, Gordon Wells, a gentleman named "Howie" (I believe) and a few others whose names I unfortunately can't recall at this moment (sorry!), plus, of course, Craig Stock.

The weather held out beautifully for us with nary a drop of rain. I hope you all enjoyed hearing my amazing musical partners: Dave Posmontier (keys), Chico Huff (bass), Grant MacAvoy (drums) and Jay Webb (trumpet) - all world class jazz artists. (Chico and Grant played on my album Pedal Steel Jazz).

Thanks to the Westfield Community Association for having us back again this year and to Craig Stock for his support in making it all possible - and making it all go smoothly (including some last-minute minor surgery needed on my Franklin).

I'm sorry I'll be out of the country when Mike Neer plays at the festival on Aug 22nd, but he's an outstanding player and I'm sure will have great sidemen (sidepersons?) with him. Be prepared to hear some Monk! Smile

I'll try to get some videos up, once I have a chance to go through them and see how they came out.

Thanks again,

Jim

p.s. This festival, which presents 40 (!!!) jazz acts every summer, is already in its 21st year! How wonderful and amazing is that?! Big thanks to the people of Westfield for continuing to support jazz annually in a big way.

Here's one video that came out reasonably well. I messed up a bit on the head in a few places because I had recently decided to change the positions (and pedals/KLs) that I play it in so, unfortunately, my muscle memory was pulling me in the old direction while my brain wanted me to play it the new way. (And that, Virginia, is how clams are made...) But seein' as how we're all friends here (right?), I'll throw caution to the wind and post it anyway...

With: Dave Posmontier (keys), Chico Huff (bass), Grant MacAvoy (drums) & Jay Webb (trumpet)

Just wanted to remind everyone that Mike Neer will be playing next Tuesday the 22nd in Westfield, NJ at the Jazz Fest on Central Ave. in front of the Turning Point Restaurant.

Set goes from 7-9PM with short intermission.

I will not be able to attend since I will be in Texas taking my daughter down to Texas Tech, I'm totally bummed to miss this show, so if anyone can take some video, it will greatly be appreciated.

Jim Cohen did a great job back in July and I know that Mike will not disappoint, so please come out and hear some Steelonius and support Mike!

Wish I could be there for Mike's performance, but I'm in Edinburgh this week. I'm sure it'll be a great show. By all means, go if you can!

Have a great time on the other side of the pond Jim!

And everyone remember that in case of rain, the rain date would be the next night Wed. the 23rd, and we seem to be getting rain almost nightly.
