If you set up an S10 tuned to C6, do you add 2 pedals (for a total of 5) or do you just use 3 that most S10s seem to come with?
I've been looking at on-line photos and I don't see any S-10 PSGs with 5 pedals. _________________ Tony

This has been discussed before - but may be hard to search the thread. Lots of good ideas in that thread, though.
Here is my suggestion: If you have three pedals, and four or five knees, put the standard pedals 6, 7, and 8 on the floor. Put pedal 5 on a knee lever - I have it on my LKR. Don't put it on LKL - too hard to combine it with pedals 7 or 8. For the other knees, the standard Emmons C6 levers would be a good place to start.
Here is my C6 coped. chart - I use four pedals - the first one is the standard pedal 4 on C6, but many people drop this pedal:
This is pretty much the same as what the link here for Buddy E's C6 says, except I moved his pedal 5 to the LKR and put the A to Bb pull he has on LKR on the vertical, and also added the same change on the 8th string to that lever.
If you have only three pedals, drop my pedal 5 (Buddy's pedal 4). If you only have 4 levers, you have to chose between raising or lowering string 4. _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental! |

Thanks Douglas. Good info.
I was browsing through Craig's Lists nationwide and found this Sho-Bud Pro-1 in Delaware that has 5 pedals.
So there are 5 pedal setups out there. _________________ Tony

Or, 5,7, and 8 on the floor and 6 on a lever, which is what I do. Not saying it's better, but it may be lighter. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Andy, that is one beautiful guitar! I just bought a Sho-Bud 6139 and going back to the well for another PSG would be a fatal move on my part .
Good luck! _________________ Tony

A lot of us got our start on a Sho Bud 6139.
For me it was back in 1976 so can't remember for sure, but think it had 5 pedals &1 knee lever.
I tried a lot of ways to tune it including several 6th/9th combinations.
I think Bob Lee who runs the forum has had several variations of D6th/9th over the years.
Sounds like you have the basic three pedals, but how many knee levers?
C6th or D6th can do a lot even with 3&1, but yes it's best to have the other two for a complete C6th which I have very limited experience with.
Pedals, pull rods and tuning barrels come up for sale every now and then on the equipment for sale page.
It is an easy guitar to add parts to with basic mechanical & woodworking skills.
The best thing about the rack and barrel Sho Buds is the ease in changing tunings as well as most having good tone.
They don't have as smooth an action as the newer guitars, but were used by lots of pros for many years on many of the best ever recordings.
Different tone than the Emmons, but so much easier to work on.
Thanks for the nice comment on the my Sho Bud.
Good luck,
