I know that this has been asked a lot in one way or another. Sorry about asking again.
I'm finally getting around to refurbishing a blonde triple-8 Stringmaster that's been here in my shop for a few years. In original condition, it doesn't need much other than a teardown and thorough cleaning.
I'll string up one neck to C6th, of course. I realize that there are many others but, my question is, what two other CLASSIC tunings would most likely have been used for the other necks? Put another way, if you were to step up to a T3 back "in the day", what would you not at all be surprised to find it tuned to?
Thanx in advance. |

E13 is pretty classic (there are a few to choose from)and the front neck is designed for a bass tuning (discussed on another current thread). |

When a T-8 Stringmaster was my main guitar, I tuned the necks so: C#m7, C6th and A6th. |

I used E13, C6 (3rd on top) and A6 (5th on top) on my Stringmaster and 51 Custom. |

I like A6th (easily retuneable to B11), C6th (easily retuneable to D9th) and E13th (Don Helms). _________________ Zum Encore, Remington D8 non pedal, Hallmark Mosrite clone, Gretsch 6120 DSW, Gretsch G5210T-P90 Electromatic Jet Two 90,1976 Ibanez L5, Eastman archtop, Taylor Dreadnaught, Telonics pedal, Squire Tele, Squire Strat, Fender Tonemaster, Gold Tone 5 string banjo, Little Wonder tenor banjo, 3 Roland cubes 30s and 80, Carvin combo bass amp |

I guess it's also worth mentioning that C6 (3rd on top) can easily be retuned to A6 (5th on top). |

Try
1st neck - Extended Leavitt (Jazz/experimental advanced voicing)
2nd neck - E13 - classic pedal sounds
closest neck - C6 -classic non pedal sounds
Some usually keep their experimental neck closest but that doesn't make sense to me if you are sitting. If you are standing then swap it. But to me the most logical is having the most common sounds closest then moving out from there. _________________ Stefan

I'm currently using C6th (high G), E 13th (more or less McAuliffe's tuning), and F9. These more than cover all I ever seem to need.
That said, if I was playing a lot of Hank Sr. tunes, I'd likely want to use the Helms E13th so I didn't have to play those lick so high on the C6th neck and I'd want B11 if I was playing Hawaiian. |

Here is my compressed Bebop E13/b3 Tuning.
A lot of modern and traditional voicings in here.
Drop me a message and I'm more than happy to elaborate.
