Lap steel build

I'm in the process of building an eight string lap steel. I'm looking for a single pole (stringmaster?) type, but noiseless. No batteries, it will be string through the body construction. I'm looking for a vintage sound hawaiian/swing, but I also like David Lindley. I'm a dobro player so I'm used to a 25" in scale, should I go shorter? What is the scale of a stringmaster? I know I'm asking for a lot, but I thought I'd try. Thanks!

Can't help with the pickup, except that Stringmaster have 2 single coils but configured as a single humbucker with a blend control on them. They sound great.

They come in 22.5", 24.5" and 26" scale lengths.
