Happy Birthday to Detroit Steeler Chuck Rich who at 79 is still innovating the instrument. I am so glad he moved to Cincinnati in the 60's to play on The Midwestern Hayride and decided to call our humble city home. God Bless you, Chuck!!

He's still playing at Bobby Mackey's in Wilder, KY with the best country band in the world every Friday and Saturday night.

Here is a bootleg clip of him with the Meadowlarks back in the '60's. Enjoy!!

I talked to the birthday boy this morning and he reminded me that he actually turns 78 today not 79. I apologize Chuck, you definitely don't look a day over 77! So happy to celebrate another year of picking with my dear friend!! Happy Birthday, Jazz Guy!!

Hey Paul, that video clip you posted did have Chuck back there on steel...that was from a retrospective that WLWT did 30 or so years ago.

Here's some more Chuck Rich candy for the ears...a tune called Big Beaver. This is from that same night at The Wayside Bowling Bar and Grill back in the 60's on the Corner of 10 Mile and John R. in Detroit, Michigan.

To hear some of the finest Chuck Rich steel uguitar work go to YouTube and search for Bobby Grove. Bobby is a gospel singer from Hamilton, Ohio and Chuck played steel guitar for Bobby on the Jewel recording studio lin Cincinnati; and did some of the finest steel guitar work you'll ever hear. His tone is unbelievable and unbeatable. The album that you want to click on is "Jesus this is Jimmy." Listen to the tone that Chuck gets on "Tears will never stain the streets of that city." Happy birthday to a wonderful steel guitar player.
