Damir, for you to not be mad at Billy says a whole lot about your demeanor and character. You are obviously a very forgiving man. You've kept your head up and shown a positive attitude through this ordeal. I salute you.
Like others, I wonder why Billy sold his reputation. He must be losing his mind to have let all this happen. I've never seen a guitar treated this way. It's as bad as the way he treated Damir. It's beyond my ability to grasp. Billy seems to have had friends here. Can anyone comment on his current mental condition? |

Truly bizarre!
I've seen Billy around here since I joined some 12 years ago.
Has he acknowledged the issue with the underside?
"Oh yeah, and once I used it for a tar bucket to do my roof, and then dispensed paint removed out of it." or anything?
Sounds like maybe he's losing his sanity....

This has to be the most bizarre thing I have ever seen on the Forum. There is absolutely no rational explanation for what was done to that guitar, even if it turned out to be a homemade knockoff. (And I'm not implying that it is a homemade knockoff.)
It would be nice to know the whole story. Perhaps a Forumite close to Billy could find out. |

I am totally stunned that Billy or anyone would completely misrepresent a guitar or any item to that extent. I've gotten two guitars from Billy in the last 10 or 12 years and both were as he said, in fact one was in better shape than he said. I can't imagine why he would ruin his reputation either. I think he dealt in quite a few guitars.

It was not my intention to ruin anyone's reputation, I just wanted to show the restoration process of this guitar.... I don't know why he did what he did... this is genuine Excel, and it is a newer model, I owned a few Excels, and played one myself through the 90's, and also own one U12 Excel Superb right now as well, so I believe this to be a genuine Excel, I'm not sure if it's a Superb model or not tho....

The seller decided not to disclose the obvious. You had no role in that, Damir. He had to know you'd open the box sooner or later.

we tried with some paint remover, and if you let it sit for awhile, you can kind of scrap that weird stuff off, we need to be careful not to damage the mica tho.... we are hoping to remove all that crap underneath, and sand it, and have a nice clear coat finish.... Mike is taking all the bigger aluminum parts to be sanded and buffed.... smaller parts we can clean and polish at his shop.... I believe it will be a great looking and playing guitar ones we get done with it....

I showed my wife the photos and the video.
She said she thought it looked like someone painted the guitar with fingernail polish.
It does look kinda like that.
Can you buy fingernail polish by the bucket? |

I don't think it'd be a good idea for any of us to characterize someone without having walked in his shoes, particularly in Pedal Steel.
I know Darrell means this respectfully and compassionately, but if someone has damaged their reputation, we shouldn't help or make it worse.
I think it's possible for any of to us melt down. It's possible it could have been a third party deal. It could be anything.
It could have been that no one should respond to a one-line ad with no pictures.
I'd be pleased to see the thread continue with the restoration, since this is in Pedal Steel, and follow Damir's example with the externalities.

| That "Excel" logo - the one on a corroding metal plate - looks unlike anything on the website, new or older model. And I almost said the Excel changer axle isn't partially covered by the aluminum neck, but then on some older ones it is. Older? CORRODING metal plate? Mississippi? If I didn't know it was brand-new just two years ago, I'd be tempted to opine "Glub, glub..." Old Excel underthings, inadvertently amphibious lumber? |
