I'm interested in a Carter guitar, the one I'm looking at is 8+5.
it appears that only the two levers on the right operate the C6 neck. Is that it for a standard Carter or should I be able to add more C6 changes to the other 3 levers?
thanks _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

That is standard but with more parts, others can be added. _________________ Henry Matthews

You can add changes to the left knee levers, but you most likely be unable to use them when you want to play the pedals for the C neck. If you could reach the pedals, you would most likely actuate the LKR lever. It is rare to see C6 changes on those legt knee levers. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

I did successfully change the Vertical Lever on my GFI to work only the C6 neck. Though it was positioned between the E9 Left Knee Levers, I could still reach it easily while pushing at least Pedals 4,5, & 6 (maybe more but I can't remember). I successfully used it that way for several years. I eventually removed it when I decided that I just don't like the leg motions required to operate vertical levers, but if I went back to one I would use it for C6 again and not E9. Can't speak specifically for Carters, but it should work out the same. |

I have C6 changes on all 3 left levers of my Sierra, none of which get in the way of using the pedals. I was hesitant to add a change to LKR at first but I love it now and would want it on any guitar I end up getting.
Doug Jernigan recommends 3 left levers for C6 in some of his instruction material. guess I just assumed most players used left levers on C6. _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

That configuration is standard in most guitars, not just Carter.
That being said, on my Carter the LKL/LKR also have C6 functionality. The guitar is more than capable if your body can handle it . The Carter is a professional guitar in every sense.

Normally, when players have C6 changes on their left knee, it isn't the three that are used on the E9 neck. They are typically 3 additional levers placed between the right knee and the left E9 levers.
Some times when I am tuning up and warming up at a gig, I sometimes mess around with playing C6 with my knee in the E9 levers. I can hit some individual pedals, but not anle to jump between pedals quickly, or rock on and off pedals. I wouldn't even try to do a gig like that.
I play a Carter.
Of course, there are exceptions to everything steel guitar. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

Although at this time each of my Steels only have 2 levers ( RKR and RKL) for the C6, my previous Carters had 3 MID point levers as well.
I guess they are called Mid right, Mid left and Mid Vertical. It's important to have the left leg K levers lined up over the 4,5 and 6 peds of C6.
ergonomics they call it ! _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders
