What is a Franklin set-up? I have seen ads stating that the guitar is set up with a pedal or level for the Franklin sound. ??

The Franklin change is a pedal on the standard 10 string E9 tuning that lowers the 5th, 6th, and 10th strings each a whole tone. Some people split that so that one pedal or lever lowers the 5th and 10th, and the other pedal or lever lowers the 6th string.

How long have you been playing? This is not a change that you should be worrying about if you're just getting started on PSG. Many famous steel players have had long successful careers without having this change.

Probably, but not guaranteed, that it has the "Franklin pedal" which lowers 5, 6 and 10 a whole tone.
Paul also has a signature change dropping 6 to E.

If you're a newer steel player, or a steel student, just ask for a copedent chart.
The presence or lack of a Franklin pedal would play no role in my purchase or not of a guitar.

I do not play. I'm interested at this point in trying to get a little education on what's what before buying anything, and your comments here are great. Thank you.

I had Lane Gray add a Franklin Pedal to my MSA..haven't had a chance to really use it..he also added a pull on strings 1 and 2..that I am using a great deal...Thanks Lane..Also keep in mind that getting a good quality "steel" will let you make these changes..don't like a change..change it..no pun intended!
