What is a "split case" ? I see this as an option sometimes when people are selling.

Thanks

Most guitar cases hold the steel and pedal rack. Split cases carries each so that cuts down on the total weight you have to carry.

I would have thought that it slightly increases the total weight, as the six sides of a single box are replaced with the equivalent of eight.

The point is that the individual cases are each lighter than the original.

Ken has those nice Hatton cases.

Mine are the cheap kind, made from soft 49-key keyboard cases and some 2" high-density foam.

My Carter SD-10 in its hard cases is 58 pounds. "Split" into two soft cases with the guitar body in case #1, pedal bar, legs, rods, volume pedal, cables, tools.... everything but my amp and seat in case #2, about 25 pounds each.

They provide adequate protection for transport from my car to rehearsals and gigs. BTW, the strings, changer and tuners are not resting on the floor. The guitar is held in place on cut styrofoam blocks.
