Topic: Direct to Mixer = Volume Pedal Noise |

Whenever I try to connect my steel to a small mixer (before routing to an amp) I get distortion from my volume pedal. Not scratchy POT noise ... but a slight distortion when I engage the volume ... certainly not whisper quiet like it should be. Here is the signal path.
G2 Steel --> Goodrich Vo lPedal --> Mackie Mix8 Mixer --> Katana 112 Amp
I have tried different cables, mixers, input gain settings on the mixer, etc. but there is some electronic/impedance issue with doing this. The issue disappears when going direct to amp and when using a powered effect such as:
Steel --> Vol Pedal --> Digitech RP55 --> Mixer --> Amp
Can anyone explain this to me and provide a possible work-around solution?
I am using the mixer to send Guitar, Steel, Fiddle and Banjo all into an Amp with only one input.

Sounds like your overdriving one of the preamps. Either in the mixer or the amp. Most probable the input to your amp is to high from the mixer.
Why do you need the mixer in this chain? |

Thanks ... but that is not the answer ...

The distortion/noise is only when first moving the pedal ... but cleans up by the time the toe is down. It is not an overdrive gain issue ..

| Maybe the Mackie mixer is putting a little DC voltage across the Goodrich pot, making it scratchy. |

Leo the rp55 is hi z low z converter also, kinda like a DI box, its never a good sound going direct to the mixer , gotta have something in between, Amps and Pa's are different animals , the signal you send just needs experimenting thats all , your on the right track you just need some info on hi z low z signal
Edit , if the rp 55 has 2 outputs ...run one to the PA mixer and the other direct to amp, your pickup in your steel is the reason for all the extra effort , its not like an acoustic pickup, you probably already knew that.

Craig .. you got it .. inserting a DI Box solves the problem.
