I just got a new solid state Standell with two 12" Trusonic speakers. It appears all original, including the foot switch. Excellent shape. Strong reverb.
I was always curious about these amps , but it just didn't make sense for me to have another amp. I ended up with one, and it's really sweet.
Anyone know anything about these amps ? I'm curious of the date and Wattage. Anyone have any experience with these amps ? I'm running into both channels from the dual outs on my pedal, and it's sounding really good. I thought I might sell it, but now I'm having second thoughts. It has a cool vintage mojo for sure.[img]

It would help if you show us a photo. They made several versions. _________________ Chris Lucker

A photo would help ID the amp. I can tell you that the Standel SS amps are highly prized among some players. I have two of them - an Artist and a Custom - and they are great especially for my 6 string electrics. My Twin Reverb with an Altec 418B is still my #1 by far for steel. |

Or even if you can describe the features a bit.
Does it have a Counter knob? I meant to write contour knob.
Is it a Tray Top, meaning it looks like it has a tray on top? _________________ Chris Lucker

It's very dusty, but it will clean up nicely.
Thank you Chris and Tim , for sharing your knowledge.
Chris, would that be a tray top ?
Thanks to all who contribute. |

No contour knob, thanks Chris. Pictures up now. I'm surprised these amps aren't on the radar of most steelers. I could gig with this amp today. |

I believe those tray top models were circa '66 to '68. The input wattage is shown as 140 watts which translates to about 70 watts of output. |

A guitarist in one of my high school bands purchased a brand-new Standell that looked exactly like that one. Solid-state with two twelves, one atop the other. Had the same top-mounted control panel recessed into an aluminum channel. Same era ('67-'69).
That amp sounded just wonderful, with outstanding vibrato and reverb. Much better sounding than the Bandmasters and Supers we were using. The only drawback was it just wasn't built to withstand the rigors of the road. You couldn't slam and bang it around in and out of the trailer like you could the Fenders, or it would (and did) fall apart. I can remember helping repair that Standell more than once because the chassis kept coming loose and dangling inside the cabinet.
There was likely a high rate of attrition with those amps. Steve's Standell appears to be in outstanding condition, and is quite the score. Great amp. Congratulations! |

Thanks for all the info, interesting stories for sure.
I guess I got lucky. Last thing in the world I needed, but you know how that goes.... |

I have a Standel Custom XV, which is exactly like yours, except it has a slightly shorter cabinet with one 15" speaker. I also have an Artist XV which has a heavier bass reflex type cabinet with with a 15. They both sound awesome, after Ken Fox repaired them for me. I don't really know why anyone would really need more in an amp. |

I see the "custom" and "artist" model on the solid state amps. Any specifics about these seperate designations ?
Bobby, I agree. These amps are special. Hard to believe they arent more sought after. |
