An Alumitone may not fit into your SKH due to interference from the changer mounts. I recently attempted to install an Alumitone in my SKH and ran into that very problem. Ended up installing a Telonics '409', could not be more pleased. |

Jeff, as you can see, I had no problem mounting the Alumatones in my SKH and LeGrande II.
They fit the same in all LeGrandes. Not sure about the LeGrande III's.

Jay..Were any modifications necessary? When attempting to install mine, the feet on the pickup rested squarely on the changer mounts. My only options seemed to be to either modify the mounting plate or the pickup housing. |

David, look at the picture above. Looking at the pickup nearest to you, see the arm with two screws? That is the changer arm of the LeGrande II. The arms are essentially the same as the SKH. If modification becomes necessary, it is easily done on the SKH as the ends of the changer axles are exposed and easily driven out using a small diameter wooden dowel, letting the changer fingers drop. The necks must be removed and the lowering springs disconnected before removing the changer axles. If the arms are too long just cut them off and add another screw hole. I have been to this point several times before, as a friend was continually breaking the string anchor pins because he did not press the string ball against the changer finger when adding new strings. He never learned.

Jay..Thanks so much for the detailed explanation, was curious if I had missed something obvious when attempting the pickup replacement. As stated, I ultimately decided to install the Telonics and am well satisfied but perhaps this information may be helpful to Jeff as well..Thanks again. |
