Topic: Who does refinishing work on lap steels ? |

Hypothetically, If you acquired a steel guitar that had already been refinished, but say not well done, so there is no danger of destroying the integrity of the instrument at this point, who does body work that you could send your steel to have it done well.
I am just talking cosmetics here. Thanks.

| For a lap steel you don't really need 15 coats of lacquer. I've had excellent results with some auto body shops spraying an acrylic gloss. |

I've had these guys refinish an old Gretsch guitar that was spray painted black. They did a great job with the paint, installing the parts and new parts, set up was fantastic too.

| Yeah, that was the disadvantage of my using an auto body shop. I had to remove all the parts then reinstall everything after the paint job. |

Larry,
It's really not that big a deal to do it yourself.
You need to strip it down to just the body and then strip the old finish off with paint remover. All the materials you need are available at www.reranch.com
That's where I get my materials. I do all my re-finishing with nitrocellulose lacquer in rattle cans. They have all the other stuff also.  |
