Junior Barber passed away. I understand he had Lymphoma.
Dobro master for sure. Great tone and melodic ideas in any key sans capo, great guy who didn't hesitate to share his knowledge/licks. |

Junior Barber was a top notch dobro player who could hold his own with anyone out there. Junior played an important role in escalating the "Gibson Brother's" bluegrass group to international award winning status. I was fortunate to have known and have played music with Junior several times over the years and he always amazed me with his unique playing skills. Junior's skills advanced at a rate that I certainly could not keep up with. Junior could also play the guitar and banjo very good as well. A gentle, kind, humble man, who will be missed. |

I never had a chance to hear or see him play, that I know of, but I've heard of him.
I admire any sliders that can skate up and down the fretboard seamlessly and keep it in in tune.

I had the great pleasure of meeting him and taking a dobro lesson from him at a little festival in Southern Alberta a few years ago, and chatting with him by email a few times after that. A very special musician and a super nice man. His son Mike is a very fine musician as well - he plays bass for the Gibson Brothers. RIP Junior. |
