I came across a few interesting papers from Valco dating from the late '40s to the mid '50s. Most were boring mass letters to dealers, but I figured you folks would be interested in this one. It sounds like Shot Jackson asked them to revive the Dobro design, possibly as a one-off custom order, and that Valco no longer had the tooling to do it. There's nothing particularly earth-shattering, but it's cool to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. Unfortunately, I don't have the rest of the letter, so I don't know who wrote it.
My favorite part is how 20-year-old Dobros were still being used "in some isolated examples, with continued success."
