I have an early sessions 400, not the LTD, it sounds great when I first turn it on, after about 30 minutes it starts to distort, harmonic distortion, I cant tune it out. It has the original 4 ohm LBJ speaker. Any help would be appreciated. Jim Goins. Confused Confused

My first guess is that some power transistors are getting old and tired.
An amp tech with either an infrared thermometer or a can of "cold shot" should be able to pinpoint the problem component. Or you can ship it down to Mike Brown and his crew of wizards.
As a side note, the only difference between the 400 and the LTD is the size (the layout of the same components changes to accommodate the tighter space).

The original "Session" (not Sessions) amps were discrete components (I installed a Lemay mod in one for a client). I had a later LTD model bought new around 1992 and it had IC Op-Amps in it.

Considering the age, it could very well need new filter caps in the power supply. Improper voltages can cause distortion.

Ok Thanks guys, I'll try to find a good local teck, tell him what it might be, I'd rather not ship it if at all possible. Sad . Jim Goins.

Pat, you can send just the chassis to Mike. You don't need to send the whole amp. It's very cheap.

DON'T tell him what you think it might be; describe the behavior. Just because my thoughts seem reasonable (well, I assume they are, but I might be biased), doesn't mean they're right.

Its a simple process with the Peavey Folks. And, its more than reasonable on the rates. Quick turn around, too.

My thinking is the filter caps. You may ship the chassis with the reverb pan and wiring harness to;
Peavey Service Center
Attn; Repair Dept.
412 Hwy. 80 East
Meridian, MS 39301

Please include a copy of this note and your daytime phone number. Our labor rate is $55.00 per hour plus parts and return shipping.

We do have good techs that know these amplifiers.
