Hello guys
I'd need to replace two or three Spertzel tuning pegs on my '81 Zum.
They became way too stiff to turn... Tried to disassemble, clean and oil them but it seems like they started to be worn out.
Spertzel says they don't make those tuners any longer.
Tried buying Grover 210C (aware it could be a wrong purchase) but the shaft is too long, there's not space enough on the headstock to fit the gear for strings 5 and 6.
So... I really don't know what to do!
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
G.

Call Bruce, also a good machinist can shorten, and redrill the shafts to work. _________________ Bill Ford S12 CLR, S12 Lamar keyless, Misc amps&toys Sharp Covers

G, early shobuds used to just grind those shafts on 5 and 6 shorter. Ugly but functional. _________________ Emmons SKH Le Grande, '73 Fender P/J bass, Tick tack bass, Regal high strung, USA Nashville 112. |

The newer of my two Zum Hybrids has Mini Grovers on it and these look and work fantastically ! An option worth considering ??? _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

I have an old MSA. And I went down the route of replacing the tuners. Out of 10 4 was not working right. I ordered 2 sets of 6 102-18C Grover Chrome tuners, They looked close to the original tuners but had 1:18 ratio.
When I removed the original and compared to the new they looked the same. Wrong. The original tuner shaft was .375 (3/8"), The new ones was .391 25/64 or 10mm .39337. Seems Grover has went international sales.
I ended up having to drill the holes larger for the new one to fit. They fit great then the little lock screw head had to be ground down with a Dremel tool to clear the gear case.
And yes I had to grind and file down the shafts length on String 5&6 tuners so the ends did not hit each other. Goog Luck and Happy Steelin. |
