Topic: 3 hole rod placement positions ? |

Is there any rhyme or reason as to which hole in a 3 hole changer, a rod should be placed, other than to give the rods a straight shot as possible to the cross bar pullers ?
I know the upper holes (closest to the changer) will create a stiffer pull as the lower will create a softer pull, and this all can be adjusted on the cross bar puller hole positions, as well as pedal travel.
Im only talking about the upper pulling holes .
I would guess one position will cancel out the other  |

There may be other considerations, but the changer hole selected can give you some fine tuning on how stiff/fast the pull is.
As you said, you can get the same leverage options using different slots on the bellcrank, so which hole you use on the changer just gives you another set of options. My understanding is that the bellcrank is more powerful. For example, moving to the next slot on a bellcrank causes a bigger change in leverage than does moving the rod to the next hole on the changer.
If you can get the leverage you want rodding the bellcrank, then making a rod play nice with the others on that finger might be another reason to pick one changer hole rather than another. |

When you have 2, or more pulls that need to start, and finish at the same time, you can arrange to do so by changing the positions on the bellcrank/changer holes.
Also as Tucker said, faster/easier pulls.

additionally, when we get into multiple pulls on a specific string it allows to use the best changer hole to match the proper bell crank position so the rods don't cross or bang into each other or interfere with each other.
A standard 3+4 configuration may not have this issue but once we start adding extra stuff, it very well may.
