How I find the year of my Gibson Console Grande? It doesn't have serial number that I can find.

Dennis, some of the older models have a serial number die-stamped on the vertical tuner end.

Mine doesn't have it, C.D., I know it is early fifties because they quit making the Tobacco Sunburst's after 1956,that's all I know. It has the rectangular pickups,4 legs, and the legs go in the bottom of the case. Thanks

There are numerous websites that tell you how to read potentiometer codes if you can read the numbers stamped on the pot cases. It's not definitive since pots can be changed and even if they're the originals, they could have been on the shelf for a while before they were installed. Might give you a ballpark though.

Where did you look for a serial number? They can be really hard to see.

Here's another thread:

My '54 had no serial, or at least not anywhere visible while keeping it assembled. Of the 3 Centralab pots 2 were original, a 53 and a 54, meaning a strong possibility it is 1954. The guitar features conform to that year. Characteristics like pickup type and number of legs and pot type can help provide date ranges also.

Oval PUs and tall knobs were about 49 to 52 or 53

Mine is a 1937. No serial number because it is the prototype. I need to find out who I need to talk to at Gibson to see if they'd like to have it.

I'ved looked on the tuner end for serial numbers many times, it's just not there. I'll look up the pot numbers, thanks for the tips.
