Mid-seventies "That Nashville Music" featuring Johnny Paycheck and Melba Montgomery has a live band with Buddy on steel. Keep an eye out for the inevitable rerun in the next few days. Buddy looking great and playing some terrific stuff... _________________ I need an Emmons! |

Classic Buddy, including using an E-Bow and playing the Blade. His steel is out front enough to hear what he is up to. _________________ I need an Emmons! |

I saw him on playing with Darrell McCall tonight. I thought it was cool to see him playing, using an e-bow. When I first heard it, I thought it was a recorder or a piccolo. Buddy was a top right steel man, and is truly missed in the steel guitar world.

What is an E-bow? Is there a video of Buddy using it?

If it is what I think it is, it is the device that he picks up from his music stand at around the 2:10 mark of his "Once Upon a Time in the West" video on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXdPDrCXMdg _________________ 2003 Mullen Royal Precision, Walker Stereo Steel, Ampeg G-15, Telonics FP-100 |

Thank you, Randy
I once saw a video of him using that device but had no idea what it was called. Thank you again for your help.

Barry,
I was actually going to start a thread asking who invented the E-Bow, what it was made of, and how did it work. Thank you for the link. It answered my questions.

Off-topic a bit, but it's weird that I first remember seeing an E-Bow in a catalog as a guitar accessory... Since then I have seen many steel players use one... But, the only guitarist that I ever recall seeing use one was the late Mick Ronson at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. |

I have used an eBow quite often on recordings, both with steel and electric guitar. It is one cool tool!
I use it live on steel with Darrell McCall, trying to cop Buddy's part on the recording of "Down The Road Of Daddy's Dreams":

I have dropped mine one too many times so I need to get a new one. The last mishap was so bad that I can't put Humpty Dumpty back together again _________________ Tommy Detamore

This is why you shouldn't "fiddle" with it, Tommy |
