I've been playing steel for quite a while pretty good at fills but struggling with scales an melody I'm 68 an don't pick up things as quick as I used to played guitar for years a n harmonicas but I've hit a road block with the melody picking on my steel any suggestion appreciated to far from teacher to take lesson I am self taught that is probably part of the problem but still enjoy the instrument I have a MSA super sustain /peavey session400/Black. Don't forget to block the string before playing the next note.
Hundreds of melodies available just within that one little do-re-mi.
If you have trouble alternate picking, try playing the scale with thumb only or finger only before moving on to T-I-M or T-I-T-M type alternate picking combinations.
